Art deserves attention.
For that, digital mediation is
fundamental.
Especially narrational and contextual embedding
generates interest and enables comprehension.
Professional texts, images and videos are the means by which artists,
galleries and institutions are reaching their audience.
Based on
long-term experience in cultural mediation I create the material you
need in order to become visible.
My main objective is to find a narration that fits you and your
purpose.
My services are specially geared to the needs of galleries, artists and cultural institutions.
For a fresh angle, a narrational introduction or art historical embedding I research and write texts that are suited for your website, social media channel or catalogue.
Appealing images and new perspectives - I present your exhibition in the right light and document your working process.
Pictures in motion facilitate vivid mediation. I record and produce videos in the format that suits your purpose.
Text and Video in German and English
Arts and culture are becoming increasingly popular. To reap this
dynamic, digital visibility and vividness of the employed media are
premises.
„The way you are telling it, art is interesting for me.“
During
my work for galleries and museums I recognized, how crucial the manner
of mediation is for the accession and interest of the audience.
For that, digital approaches are becoming more and more
relevant.
In addition to my academic education as an art historian I therefore
began to engage with art photographically and cinematically,
furthermore I produced several e-learning videos.
For me it is, aside from my personal interest, also a collective
concern to make arts and culture approachable. As my experience shows
– with adequate means, it is possible.
‘The image as a frame fixates one particular perspective.
This is how the legendary art historian Leon Battista Alberti
defined an image. This notion is to be reconsidered regarding Justin
Bower’s paintings. Here, the image space is not defined, not
localized and just as little fixated. Instead, the painting due to
its modularity and optical complexity seems to fixate the beholder.
The image content is being abstracted and dissolved in a dynamic
process. Ephemeral, graphic modules serve as structural components
and are recalling imaging techniques such as biometric facial
recognition. They are in vivid interaction with painterly, almost
lyrical passages. Bower’s pieces illustrate a changing concept of
the image. Pictures nowadays are fluid, dynamic and in a state of
flux. Just as it is the case with the individual’s possibilities to
identify and create a self-concept. In some way they are offering a
portrayal of the image itself and establish it as a nonverbal medium
of knowledge, which has the potential for social criticism.
The digital’ is blending with the notion of self and society, it is
catalyser for a change within functional, but also ethical and
emotional systems. This is envisioned employing the multitude of
figures in Bower’s pieces, that are becoming one and enable a
collective gaze.’
- Artist text for
G-ALLERY
‘A multitude of directional dynamics, flat colour areas alternating with precise, figurative descriptions; Kirstine Reiner Hansen emphasizes the special features artistic space offers to our perception. As colour passages and spatial breaks prevent a coherent narrative, the view opens up for other levels of expression, which are created intuitively through light direction, colour and composition and are set in tension with the figurative. She primarily uses oil paint, which she alternately uses in a gestural-expressionistic, geometrizing and mimetic manner. The resulting pentimenti add compositional value and are implemented into the unsystematic, free rhythm of the pictorial space. By shading the colour values, she creates a smooth and harmonious range.’ - Artist text for G-ALLERY
‘Expressive texts and professional videos, which complement and highlight the works of our artists and provide a harmonious framework...’
‘We from G-ALLERY were on the lookout for an art historian, who
could provide appealing and profound texts for the artists
represented by our gallery. These texts were supposed to point out
the respective content in a way that encourages contemplation and
resonates with the reader's impression.
Because Ms. Knickmeyer was brought to our attention before and we
found her online courses very appealing, we decided to task her
with the production of artist texts and videos.
The communication with Ms. Knickmeyer was upfront and pleasant
from the beginning. After we agreed upon the subject and the
extent, she began production immediately and was open for
suggestions and additions.
The result of her work are expressive texts and professional
videos, which complement and highlight the works of our artists
and provide a harmonious framework.
We are glad that we decided to hire Ms. Knickmeyer and are looking
forward to working with her again on future projects.’
‘Karima has a rich knowledge of contemporary art and art history, which she is able to impart in an articulate and succinct, yet accessible way.’
